Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi: Jedi, Negotiator, War Hero...Father? 4/?

A/N: Nope, Yoda is definitely not trying to play matchmaker. He doesn't like the idea of Obi-Wan being slandered and knows it's all BS.

"Speak with you I would." Rising from his seat Yoda shot a disapproving look at Anakin. "Pry into personal matters, I do not. Approve of affairs I do not. Know Obi-Wans' character I do, resisted such temptation he has. Not in him to lie or hide who he is."

The way Yodas' eyes careful met his all but confirmed the Jedi masters' pointed statement was meant to convey another message.

"Know the truth? Hmph. Long has Obi-Wan cared for you since you were a boy. Defended you he has, fought with you and trust you above all others. Repay him with falsehoods you have. His sacrifices mean nothing to you? Old I may be, dim I am not."

Anakin paled. "W-What do you mean?"

"Knew I did that this day would come. As always Obi-Wan pays the price for your actions." Yoda jabbed his cane into Anakins' stomach. "Martyr himself for the Senator and you Obi-Wan would. I fear you will let him."

"...Why didn't you say anything before now?"

Yoda shook his head looking worn and tired. "A mistake. Suspect the truth but turn a blind eye. It...seemed insignificant next to the war. A friend asked me to judge not."

"Who? Obi-Wan?"

"No." Without answering Anakins' first question Yoda left the young Jedi with his thoughts.

Wen was pleased with her rise to fame, her report had spread throughout the Republic and thousands of worlds were supporting the right for a Jedi to marry. She had a few tricks up her sleeves that were bound to get some unsolicited opinions. Years ago her father had been one of the tech supporters for the cameras in the senate. Despite the upgrades not much had change with the systems and Wen knew how to hack them without alerting anyone.

Who knew, if her plans went well Padme Amidala from Naboo and Obi-Wan Kenobi could be wed before the birth of their first child!
-----

Hours had passed without a word from Obi-Wan. Anakin had returned to his wife to consider their options and discuss their plan of action. Both were surprised when C3P0 came in to announce Obi-Wan Kenobi was at the door. Sharing a look of apprehension the couple waited for him to enter. The Jedi had a stern look on his face as he regarded the couple. Unable to stand the silence anymore Anakin tried to explain their situation.

"Padme and I are married. We've been together since that day in the arena."

Obi-Wan rolled his eyes. "Yes, I figured as much. Maybe not the marriage but the rest."

"How?!"

"I'm not an idiot, Anakin ! I'm the one being in this universe that's spent the most time with you, I'd think I know you by now !" Running his hand through his hair Obi-Wan sighed long and heartfelt.

"Why didn't you say anything?!" Anakin bellowed.

"Because I wanted you to be happy !" Exasperation turned into sorrow as Obi-Wan glanced back at his former Padawan. "I know how it feels when you can't be with someone you love. You lost so much already, I couldn't take away something else that matter to you. I couldn't make you chose between Padme or the Jedi."

For the first time since he met Obi-Wan Kenobi it occurred to Anakin that he had missed a very important detail about the man. Anakin had always assumed he alone cared too much and carried attachments to all those he held dear. Only now did he know that Obi-Wan had attachments too, he simply dealt with it differently. "I'm sorry, master. For everything."

Without prompting Anakin hugged Obi-Wan feeling a swell of emotion for the man. Perhaps the Jedi master wished to stay annoyed and realized he couldn't as he sighed again.

"I don't want to ruin this moment but we do have to discuss other things." Padme gently reminded them.

"Ah yes, my upcoming fatherhood. It seems that you are no longer the only immaculate conception, Anakin." The sarcasm was rich in Obi-Wans' accented voice before softening when he addressed Padme. "May I see?"

"Yes." Removing her robe Padme revealed the swell of belly. "I'm a little surprised you believed Sowns' report about this."

"...I did sense the baby when I returned three months ago." Obi-Wan admitted. "It wasn't my place to say anything." He added in case Anakin got upset.

His hand almost touched the belly before he retracted it with an apology. Padme smiled and placed his palm near on top just under the beading of her gown. The baby kicked against his hand as soon as he made contact. A smile grew on his face as he felt the tiny mind reach out to him. It felt male but he didn't dare say anything in case he was wrong. Sending a wave of affection to the little one Obi-Wan felt Anakins' hand cover his. There was no spark of jealousy in his eyes that the child had reached for him. Within Padme there was a spark of something else that Obi-Wan dismissed. They had important things to discuss after all.

"What are your plans? You can't continue to hide your relationship, not with a child on the way. Between the senate and Jedi order neither of you would have time for the baby."

"We did talk about going to Naboo but we didn't plan for anything else." Padme admitted.

"Then we have a long night ahead of us." Obi-Wan took off his robe then handed Anakin a stuffed wookie doll and force sensitive baby toy. "I didn't know what to get but congratulations nonetheless."

The second hug was tighter than the first making the wookie squeak. Padme watched the two men embracing and for the first time since she married Anakin felt utterly relaxed. Somehow she had always known Obi-Wan would be on their side and they could trust him with anything. Anakin pulled back to whisper his thanks to his mentor making it look like they were mere inches away...nearly kissing. Her perspective made it seem more intimate than it was, she knew that, but the sudden arousal at the idea was impossible to ignore. She could blame it on the hormones but Padme knew they'd be beautiful together. Anakin and Obi-Wan were already so perfect in the field known for being so in tune with each other.

Was it really so strange to imagine it when Obi-Wan had agreed to help them? The three of them making love into the morning hours and planning a life together? Heat rushed to her face as she recalled the way the man moved. She had harbored a crush on him when she was a queen and ignored it the best she could. After she had married Anakin there had been an effort to know Obi-Wan better. Padme had reasoned they were pretty much family and was ecstatic when they became close friends. Another kick shattered her fantasy because she was heavily pregnant. Would that really attract a man like Obi-Wan into their bed?
