Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi: Jedi, Negotiator, War Hero...Father? 5/?

Padme had insisted Obi-Wan stay with the couple at the apartment instead of traveling back to the Jedi temple. Too tired to disagree he had taken the guest room absently noting the rich decoration that made the room look so inviting. As he felt himself slipping unconscious the bed dipped and he sensed Anakins' familiar presence. It was a habit when he was a Padawan to slip into his masters' bed for comfort. Anakin hadn't done it in years, tucking himself in close to share warmth. Hours passed before Obi-Wan woke and he struggled to remain asleep.

He hadn't had such a good night in ages and decided he could afford the luxury of being lazy for once. Turning his head he pressed into a loose embrace finding himself returning it. A light muffled laugh alerted him to Anakins' presence...on the other side of the bed. Blinking his eyes open Obi-Wan realized he was waking in a somewhat compromising position with Anakins' wife. Padme smiled at his startled expression and he felt his face heat up when he noticed how close he was to her cleavage.

"I feel like I missed something."

"Sorry for the confusion Obi-Wan. I sleep best when Anakin is near and didn't want to wake either of you." Sitting up she kissed his cheek before pecking Anakin on the lips. The whole thing struck Obi-Wan as oddly natural and domestic despite the pretense of formality they had before Wen Sowns' false report.

The couple wouldn't have let him see them kiss if they could help it. Now that everything was out in the open it was surreal. More so that Obi-Wan was a part of it, that he was allowed to witness it. He was fairly impressed that Anakin didn't seem the least bit possessive of Padme sleeping next to another man.

"Hmm. It's nice to see you find this so amusing." He gave Anakin a half hearted scowl.

"I always enjoy seeing you surprised, master. You have to admit," his voice came out a little husky," it was hardly unpleasant."

Obi-Wan cocked his head to the side not sure what Anakin was implying. Yes Padme was an attractive woman but he wasn't certain Anakin wanted to hear that from another man. Was he just teasing or musing outloud that he was lucky to have such a wife?

"Oh, if Wen Sown could see this now." Padme snickered. "Senator Amidala in bed with two Jedi war heroes."

"Huh. You'd think there would be a holo like that." Anakin mused. His long legs stretched across the bed trapping Obi-Wan as Padme sat on the other side brushing her hair.

"I'd wager their already in the planning stages." Obi-Wan retorted. On impulse he moved Anakins' legs with the force sending the young man tumbling off.

"I can't believe you did that!"

"I know when your trying to annoy me, Anakin. Can you blame me for wanting to return the favor?" The playfulness in his voice drew a fond smile from Anakin.

"If you two are done I'll order breakfast for the four of us." Holding her belly Padme walked out of the room humming a happy tune.

"She seems to be in better spirits." Stroking his beard Obi-Wan turned to find Anakin watching him.

"You're making a big difference in our lives." Reaching up Anakin brushed Obi-Wans' hair to the side.

The tender gesture caught the Jedi master off guard. In the past the young man had done such things though they had become rarely as he grew older. Something about the act felt different although Obi-Wan wasn't sure why. The closeness didn't bother him, over the years they had constantly been in each others' space. Yet Obi-Wan couldn't help feeling on edge with Anakin beside him. Almost as if he could sense a change in the other man and wasn't certain how to act to it.

"This is an important stage of your life. I'm happy to be a part of it although I wish I could have been included sooner." If he had been trusted to know the truth instead of lied to.

"I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you, nothing means more to me than Padme, the baby and you."

Anakin tilted Obi-Wans' chin up and that strange sense came back. He couldn't read Anakins' expression, fear kept him from reaching out with his the force to discover what was wrong.

"Anakin? What...?"

"I didn't realize...I misjudged you for so long. I don't know if I can make up for that but I'll try." His thumb caressed Obi-Wans' cheek.

"I always wanted what was best for you and I'm sorry if that wasn't always apparent. There's nothing to be sorry for, you've never let me down."

The intense focus in Anakins' eyes was unnerving, he looked like he just discovered some great truth to the universe. Like Obi-Wan was the answer all along right in front of him. "We're a family. I get that now, we belong together."

"What are you--?"

A sharp intake of breath shattered the moment breaking whatever strange spell had been cast on the younger Jedi. Padme stood in the doorway announcing breakfast was being prepared. Excusing himself Obi-Wan went to the refresher to make himself more presentable.
----

"Ani?"

Joining her at the doorway Anakin took Padmes' hand to led her down to their bathroom. They didn't speak until they were half undressed and her handmaidens were all busy preparing the meal.

"Do you want him in our bed?"

In the middle of putting on his boots Anakin froze, a look of fear passed over his handsome features before he turned away.

"Padme..."

"You don't have to be ashamed if you do. I think I'd be upset if it was anyone else. This...feels right." The way she felt when Obi-Wan held her...seeing them so close with Anakin looking so aroused...

"I can't help it. I feel like an idoit for not realizing it before. I...I think I've always been in love with him." He scowled at his boots. "I just thought it was hero worship or assumed I only loved you and it wasn't possible to want anyone else. I never imagined he'd be willing to do so much for us and...being in bed? I enjoyed us all being together, I liked seeing him hold you. I want..."

His face flushed in embarrassment and Padme felt herself warm just thinking about what she wanted to do with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"It's not just...lust,"he whispered the word as if he couldn't bear saying it,"I love him. Having Obi-Wan with us does feel right."

"I want this too, Ani. When I was queen I had a bit of a crush on him. I thought it was silly but now it makes sense. The three of us make sense together. "

Anakin shook his head looking pained. To Padmes' horror he was crying.

"It won't happen. Obi-Wan doesn't feel the same and even if he did he'd chose the Jedi over us. It's his whole life. I'm not even sure we should ask him to chose."

"Maybe we should leave that up to him. Honestly? If it would happen at all I think I'd just get in the way." The incredulous look he gave her made Padme smile sadly. "Look at you and look at me. Who do you think is more desirable?"

"You're a goddess. He'd have to be a fool not to think so." Anakin responded confidently. "Obi-Wan is one of the wisest Jedi in the order, of course he sees it too."

The chime alerted them to breakfast being ready making the pair rush to get ready. Though neither said it out loud they silently agreed Obi-Wan was theirs.
