Set any time between AotC and RotS -

Modern AU: Obi-Wan is a college professor who is super into teaching his subject (Philosophy? Criminal Justice? whatever). Unfortunately, most of his students are just there to fulfill a requirement for their majors, so classroom participation is uninspiring to say the least, and just about everyone half-asses their course assignments.

Anakin is an exception, and also a massive fucking troll. He asks questions just to get Professor Kenobi to go on a tangent. He says things that he may or may not actually believe solely to be inflammatory. His essays are bizarre and labyrinthine while still managing to technically meet all the requirements. He frequently visits Obi-Wan during office hours and sometimes he actually wants help with his work, but sometimes he just wants to continue a discussion from class, and sometimes he's there for no discernible reason at all. Obi-Wan isn't sure whether to love him or hate him.

Let's say life debts* are taken fairly seriously, particularly in difficult places like Tatooine and the poorer areas of Corellia. It's generally handled by favours; you could save that person's life in turn, or work for them for a few years, pay them off, or in some cases, marry them.

Han asks Luke to marry him at the end of ANH, stating he'd gladly take it as payment for the life debt. Luke, who's used to the concept of arranged marriages since poor families often liked to use marriage to move up in the world, accepts.

This marriage could either be the ceremony at the end of ANH, or after some time.

1. Leia's reaction. She can understand and respect it. Or understand and not respect it. Or think they're both completely insane and doesn't understand why the hell life debts exist in the first place.
