The council didn’t seem alarmed, so Obi-Wan and Anakin were surprised when the main town was deserted. There was no other life on the planet apart from a crying baby. Once they are back at the council, they discover that they’ve bonded with the baby and they don’t want to put him up for adoption. I just really want fic where Qui-Gon comes back and Obi-Wan essentially goes into last-minute panic about every major decision he's made in teaching Anakin. He's like, you know, telling Anakin to stand up straight when Qui-Gon's in the next room over, and trying to assign remedial meditation classes to a full grown Knight, thank you, Master. While meanwhile Qui-Gone is all, "eh, he survived to adulthood, good enough! Let's talk about you, handsome, charming, accomplished former Padawan whose appeal I no longer have to repress." And then the Anakin part is, well, OF COURSE Anakin is insecure about finally getting to know the man who should have been his master, that's why he alternates between avoiding Qui-Gon and loudly talking about all the great times he and Obi-Wan had while Qui-Gon was DEAD... what do you mean, "he's jealous of me"?? Sorry for the long prompt!

Anakin rushes after Padme when she falls off the clone transport at the end of aotc. Obi-Wan faces Dooku alone expecting to die but instead he's captured.

Naturally, Anakin pursues with the kind of relentless desperation only he is capable of. At least at first the Council condones his search, even assigning Quinlan Vos (or someone) to help him. But as the war escalates they start to pressure him to join the fight. Anakin is not indifferent to the suffering of innocents, so, after the trail goes cold and he can no longer feel Obi-Wan's presence in the Force, he gives in. But he never quite gives up.

Meanwhile over the course of several months Obi-Wan is brainwashed into becoming a Sith operative. When he's completely under Darth Sidious's control he begins to carry out covert missions, weakening Republic support in vulnerable systems, always avoiding direct confrontation with the Jedi.

At some point Anakin checks in with Quinlan, like he always does between war postings. No progress finding Obi-Wan, but the Council's tasked him with investigating rumors of a second dark Jedi sowing chaos in the Mid Rim and he could use a partner. Anakin agrees, happy to return years' worth of favors.

Of course they stumble upon the Sith agent but he runs, and of course Anakin is the one who comes the closest to catching him and of course it's Obi-Wan and of course he recognizes Anakin even though he says it's only because he's seen him on the Holonet but Anakin knows that it's actually because deep down he *knows* him.

I'll leave the rest up to any potential fillers because honestly I've already been terribly pushy.

note: Obikin as a ship is a-okay with me, but extremely co-dependent best buds is also delicious.
Note 2: Relevant only as an example of the kind of feels I crave: I love Deception (the TCW episode). I would read a thousand Deception-centric fics if only there were so many.

Note 4: I want to see the darkest, most ancient Sith mind-breaking techniques, the ones the Jedi don't even have a record of anymore because they haven't been used since the Jedi Civil War ended thousands of years ago. I want to see Anakin's tortured visions of his master's suffering and the moment he feels their bond break and realizes for the first time that his master can *die* and maybe already has, all because he wasn't there. And I want to see Obi-Wan fight the conditioning constantly, refusing to do some things, intentionally botching others, etc. because they're wrong and no amount of torture can keep him in the Dark for long.
Oh and I also want the nice bits, like the reunion and Anakin convincing Obi-Wan they know each other and maybe rescuing him and taking him somewhere safe where they can just live for a while and Obi-Wan slowly shaking memories loose and maybe one day when he's strong enough they all come rushing back. (Or maybe his mind is too damaged and he never gets more than a few flashes back but he's okay with that because he doesn't think that guy Anakin is always talking about could bear the last few years)
